Welcome to the blog!
After a whirlwind wedding, Hitchcock and I have hit the road for our honeymoon. Our plan is to make one big loop around the states, visit family and friends, and have as much fun as we can before we have to go back to Boston and act like real adults with jobs.
We're driving a Subaru Impreza that I decorated with a marker:
I don't know why I'm surprised, but we get honked at all the time from fellow drivers, who have been waving and smiling as we drive past them.
Here's our packing list:
-Tent/air mattress/double sleeping bag
-Beach chair/Beach Umbrella/Picnic Blanket
-Car Emergency Kit/2 Pillows
-Small box with sunscreen, jambox, stamps, thank you cards, bug spray, umbrella, and my pineapple thermos.
We each have a small bag and a personal bag. My goal was to be able to see out the back window, and we still can! Yay for hatchbacks!
Our first stop was Pittsburgh, where Hitchcock's friend Megan was so kind to put us up for the night. The drive was ten hours, and thanks to my audiobook (This Book is Full of Spiders. Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch It.) I did it all myself. Audiobooks keep me awake and put my dear husband to sleep. So while he slept, I laughed along to my raunchy end-of-the-world book.
(This is at Legal Seafood in Boston, the manager insisted on giving us a free dessert. Being newlyweds rules!)
This is the double sleeping bag in action in Pittsburgh. I love it, but Hitchcock claims that I hog it.
His other reason to hate the sleeping bag is that it's impossible to get back in the bag. Be thankful it's photo and not video to protect your delicate ears.
In our brief tour of Pittsburgh, we ate at Pamela's, which was a sweet little diner.
The decorations were swell!
Our host, Megan, showing us around in her sweet Forester.
We drove past this cyclist. It's hard to see, but he has the Playstation controller buttons tattooed on the back of his left calf.
I think this was called the Fort Pitt bridge. Overall, we thought Pittsburg was lovely. A lot of it felt like the more industrial parts of Boston, although it sounds like the public transportation leaves much to be desired.
Driving out of Pennsylvania, listening to Camera Obscura. Hitchcock drove the whole seven hours to Chicago. We kept offering to switch off, but it seems to be easier to just let one driver go until they're tired. Working so far!
Ohio!!
Our first thousand miles!
Next is our first big stop in Chicago, and we're thrilled. I've never been to the Windy City, and I have a feeling we're going to every record store in the city limits. The first three days of marriage have floated by in a happy, goofy fog. Sigh!
Gahh so exciting! Hope you're having a blast!
